Life Matters workshop helping to Connect – Correct – Direct

April 1, 2026

The latest Life Matters workshop, delivered in Melbourne from 19–22 February 2026, aligns closely with the organisation’s  strategic priority of ‘building resilient communities grounded in ethical leadership’. The weekend was structured around the framework Connect – Correct – Direct, integrating a keynote presentation, interactive workshops, a panel discussion, and small family group conversations.

For me, what was really special about Life Matters was the diversity of people in attendance. I’ve done similar workshops before, but here I got to share, learn from, and reflect with people of different ages, cultural, and religious backgrounds. A big takeaway from Life Matters for me was the sense that no matter what you believe in – be it science, a religion or something else – there is something greater than all of us that holds it all together. For me, that’s a humbling thought. And if you ever feel like you’re carrying the weight of the world, maybe it can help you feel a little lighter too.’ – Caroline (Norway)

The program had a meaningful impact on the ten participants, as well as on the volunteer facilitators who supported its delivery. The participants included four international participants—two from Europe and two from New Zealand—whose perspectives contributed to the richness of the discussions and overall experience.

The keynote speaker Dave Chauhan Leadership Navigator and author,  presented on the topic Make Your Journey Matter – Mastering the Human Art of Navigating Chaos, focusing on the importance of values-based, purposeful, decisive, and courageous leadership. Dave’s session provided a strong foundation for the themes explored throughout the weekend.

This is definitely a great course. I did hear about some “techniques” before I joined, for example `quiet time`. Throughout the course I learned more and also experienced `quiet time` and realized that it does help me to connect with my inside – to listen and respect my inner voice.‘ – Angela (Melbourne)

The music, art and drama sub-workshops offered participants creative and reflective ways to engage with the program’s core ideas. These were complemented by facilitated discussions on identity, values, relationships, forgiveness, and personal responsibility, allowing participants to explore these topics in both personal and practical ways.

One thing that stands out for me is the space held in my family group where deep sharing about experiences from their lives was expressed. I think this would not have been possible if we did not create and hold the safe, respectful and supportive space collectively. I am grateful to have been part of that space where others could open up.’ – Yannick (Melbourne)

The next Life Matters workshop will be held in Brisbane with a focus on hosting participants from the Indo-Pacific region. 29 September to 5 October 2026, at Camp Somerset, Crossdale QLD. ‘From the meeting of the Indian and Pacific Oceans, could the spirit’s waves move through our peoples—transforming hearts and minds, turning the tide toward reconciliation, peace, and justice?’ Find out more
