On Sunday 20 October 60 people gathered for a traditional African meal at the African Village Centre Restaurant in Torrensville, South Australia for the annual Creators of Peace South Australia Fundraising Dinner.
CoP SA has been active in hosting an annual fundraiser to raise funds for the use for the work of CoP International and CoP Australia. This year the team was focused on directing the funds raised to help organise CoP Circles in Rwanda.
As Rwanda remembers 30 years of rebuilding community relationships since the genocide, a request came for the revitalising of CoP Circles in the country. In collaboration with Evodia Uwimana, a young businesswoman currently chair of IofC Rwanda, the proposal is for three women experienced in facilitating CoPCs, two from Kenya and one from Uganda to visit Kigali during 2025, to conduct one or two Peace Circles, thus laying the groundwork for local facilitator training later on.
CoP SA gladly took on the request, and with the wonderful help of a group of volunteers and generous donations from many organised the evening. With a raffle, an auction and a quiz added to the agenda of the evening, it was a great opportunity to share some fun, food and fellowship. It was also an opportunity to share news of CoP from around the world. For many the fundraising dinner is always a highlight of the CoP year and looked forward to with much anticipation.
By the end evening the target of $4000 was raised from ticket sales, donations and the prodigious jam making of Adelaide’s Helen Mills! The funds will now be directed to the relevant persons for implementation of the project in Rwanda. Much can be achieved when the community comes together for a common purpose!
