Creating Space – an online space to connect

December 11, 2025

With a focus on quiet reflection, deep listening and sharing, Creating Space is held online on the first Monday of every month. The session is a time to connect, share some time in stillness and renew one’s sense of purpose. The forum is run by IofCA network members, Amiel Nubaha from Queensland and David Clisby from Melbourne

Creating Space has been a regular IofCA program in the last few years. However, since the IofC Global Fellowship held at Asia Plateau in India, a renewed sense of purpose transformed the sessions, with the introduction of emerging leaders to share about their work as the focus of reflections. Encouragingly, our relatively small online group grew much larger with often over 40 participants engaging in stimulating conversations and attracting regular participants from many countries around the globe.

In the first meeting for 2025 in February the group reflected with participants from the IofC Global Fellowship in Asia Plateau in January.

It was wonderfully uplifting to be in an online space with many like-minded people sharing thoughts and inspirations. We all sensed that by building on a foundation of Inner Listening and Accompanying each other, we could build a Global Movement with a shared direction.’ - One participant remarked.

In April and May Uka Pinto & Joaquim Borges from Timor-Leste were invited to share their thoughts on this theme.

In June, Victoire Ingabire Umuhoza from Kigali, Rwanda joined for a very inspiring session about her life in exile and her wish to return to serve Rwanda.  Victoire, despite great danger, continues to advocate for governance reforms and peace in the Great Lakes region. Under these extraordinary circumstances her reflection on the power of Inner Listening to help maintain purpose, bridge global divides and sustain a vision during the darkest of times was very powerful.

With a theme of Trauma Healing, Axel Dubinski, a trauma healing coach and co-founder of TraumaHelden from Germany, joined the session in July to introduce the idea of Creating Space for Trauma Healing to Unlock your Potential, and build peace by healing trauma. The theme continued in August with Dr. Judith Rafferty, a conflict resolution practitioner, researcher, and educator/trainer both in Australia and internationally, sharing her detailed study on rape victims in Rwanda and exploring how Apologies and Forgiveness support Reconciliation, Healing and Personal Transformation.

In September, October and November the focus turned towards young leaders making an impact in the Pacific region. Malachai Clements, a passionate young leader shared his vision of Australia as a Peacemaker. ‘By building resilience in communities, through health and community development, and strengthening relationships and partnerships in the Pacific region, we can empower young voices to create a peaceful future.’ - Malachai Clements

Asher Piari, another vibrant young leader, originally from Papua New Guinea, shared on how she sees a future built on Fostering Collaboration and Building stronger Relationships between Australia and the Pacific.

The last speaker for the year Dominic de Moura McCarthy, who has represented Australia at international dialogues and summits hosted by the OECD, the Australian Government and the U.S. State Department, shared his reflection on Building Local Impact through Youth Leadership in an Interconnected World.
